Style:

People often think that therapy involves just telling a therapist about your problems and having them listen. This is called supportive therapy. Supportive therapy can be helpful for some problems, like stress, relationship conflict and decision making. However, when we start having more serious mental health problems that are seriously interfering with our ability to live a fulfilling and meaningful life (such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression, or one of the many anxiety disorders) we often need a more structured or comprehensive approach to help us. This is where I can help.

Therapy with me involves not only talking about problems, but really making meaningful changes. This involves learning information about yourself and your symptoms and learning and practicing skills to help you get unstuck from symptoms. This therapy can be hard work! But it also the most likely to get you long-term results, so that you don’t have to work with a therapist or take medications for the rest of your life!

Having come from a background working in prisons, I’ve heard it all! I pride myself on being warm, non-judgmental and easy-going, and I will strive to make you feel safe and supported. I look forward to helping you!

I do not offer therapy for children or adolescents, as they require special skills and training in development that I do not have. I also do not offer couples counselling.
